Square to round table

Square table now become round- Adam hard at work finishing surface.

Adam re-upholstering an old chair

Bit of history in the making / continuation here. A set of six chairs have come in to be re-uphosltered. See second pic. As well as horse hair, the original hay padding is still in place. see pic three. This will be kept.

Adam is doing this job (pic four) , supervised by Kenny. Although some of the tools used (staple gun) are modern, the basic techniques have been handed down since 1845. The skills Adam is learning from Kenny were taught to Kenny by Alex Livingston, his dad. Alex was taught by Jim, his father. Jim was taught by William Stewart and William by his father who started his
apprentice ship way back in 1844... see first image

Work in progress : table 16 November

This morning the clamps were taken off after the oak planks were glued up last night. Pic three .

The next stage will be to use the router to cut a circle. Ian is setting up the router in pic two and the circle can just be seen marked in pic one. The circle should be cut later on today.
